Privacy Policy

For the Bento app · last updated 18 July 2026

Bento is a companion app for FUJIFILM X series cameras. It lets you browse, create and sync film simulation recipes, and pull photos off the camera. Here is exactly what happens to your data — I kept it short, because there is not much of it.

The short version: no accounts, no ads, no analytics, no tracking. Your photos never leave your phone. Your favourites and the recipes you make are stored under an anonymous ID, and you can ask me to delete them at any time.

No sign-up, no personal data

There are no user accounts. I never ask for your name, your email address, or anything else about you. There are no ads and no third-party analytics or tracking SDKs in the app.

Anonymous cloud sync

So your favourites and your own recipes survive a phone restart, the app quietly creates an anonymous identifier through Firebase Authentication. Those favourites and recipes live in my database (Cloud Firestore) under that identifier, sent over an encrypted connection. The identifier is random, it is not linked to you as a person, and it is lost when you uninstall the app — together with access to whatever was stored under it. See Firebase's privacy documentation for how Google processes this data.

Your photos stay on your device

Photos and RAW files you transfer from the camera, and sample images you shoot while trying a recipe, are stored only on your phone. I never upload them anywhere. All camera communication happens directly between your phone and the camera over Bluetooth, the camera's own local Wi‑Fi network, or a USB cable — none of it passes through my servers or anyone else's.

Permissions

The app asks for Bluetooth and location permissions purely to find and connect to your camera — location is an Android requirement for Bluetooth scanning, and the app never reads or stores where you are. It asks for USB access to sync recipes over a cable.

Services I use

Data deletion

Uninstalling the app abandons your anonymous identifier and the data stored under it. If you want that data actually removed from my database, write to me and I will delete it.

Changes

If this policy changes, I will update this page and the date at the top. Nothing changes retroactively for data already collected — there is not much of it to begin with.
